Utagawa Kuniyoshi: Utagawa Kuniyoshi was Edo Japan’s wild spark. A woodblock rebel painting samurai, monsters, and madness with grin and mischief. He twisted myths and history into loud, brash, theatrical scenes. He was punk before punk existed. Bursting with energy and rebellion, he thrived between tradition and spectacle, bending rules, breaking norms and leaving a direct, raw influence on the visual language that would become manga.
